Shout by Jeff Carnie

praising-black-man2
A church ran into difficulty when the elders decided that one man was shouting too much in church. They thought he might disturb the very distinguished guests the church was suddenly now having. So the elders called the pastor aside and notified him that this shouter must be refrained. The pastor told them “I won’t tell him to stop shouting, but I will go with you if you wish to tell him”. So, soon off they went to vist this farmer.

As they drove down the dusty road to his house, they found him plowing his huge field with his mule near the fence line. One elder spoke for all of the others, stating how they had voted to ask him to hold the shouting down when in the worship service and the potential problem it would cause.

The old farmer quickly stated, “See that beautiful wife standing over there? God gave her to me. See that beautiful farm house? God gave us that house. “See those beautiful children playing in the yard? God gave us those children. See all of this beautiful land? God gave me this land. Now, hold my mule while I shout!”

TRUST IN HIM

Man:    God, can I ask you a question?hand-of-god - Copy

God:    Sure.
Man:
Promise you won’t get mad…
God:
I promise.
Man:
Why did you let so much stuff happen to me today?
God:
What do you mean?
Man:
Well, I woke up late.
God:
Yes.
Man:
My car took forever to start.
God:
Okay.
Man:
At lunch they made my sandwich wrong  and I had to wait.
God:
Hmmm.
Man:
On the way home, my phone went DEAD, just as I picked up a call.
God:
All right.

Man:    And on top of it all, when I got home I just wanted to soak my feet in my new foot massager and  relax.  BUT it wouldn’t work!!!  Nothing went right today!  Why did you do that?

God:    Let me see… the death angel was at your bed this morning and I had to send one of my angels to battle him for your life.  I let you sleep through that.

Man:    (humbled): Oh.

GOD:   I didn’t let your car start because there was a drunk driver on your route that would have hit you   if you were on the road.

Man:
(ashamed)
God:
The first person who made your sandwich today was sick and I didn’t want you to catch what  he has.  I knew you couldn’t afford to miss work.

Man:
    (embarrassed) Okay.
God:
Your phone went dead because the person that was calling was going to give false witness about what you said on that call.  I didn’t even let you talk to them so you would be covered.

Man:
    (softly)  I see, God.
God:
Oh, and that foot massager had a short that was going to throw out all of the power in your house tonight.  I didn’t think you wanted to be in the dark.

Man:
I’m, sorry, God.
God:
Don’t be sorry; just learn to trust Me… in all things, the good and the bad.
Man:
I will trust you.
God:
And don’t doubt that my plan for your day is always better than your plan.
Man:
I won’t, God.  And let me just tell you, God, thank You for everything today.
God:
You’re welcome, child.  It was just another day being your God and looking after my children…

SEEING THE HEART by Jeff Carnie

hearts

When everyone starts filing into work today what if you could just see the inward appearance? You would not see who is the nicest dressed or nicest looking. All you would see would be the same spirit of everyone BUT in that spirit you would see their heart. Their heart would either be filled with love and light or be filled with hatred and darkness. They would be filled with light and joy or you could see that their hearts are heavy. When you can only see the heart of a person you would see them in a much different light. You would not judge based on outward appearance any longer. Fortunately for us God only looks at our heart.

But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”

1 Samuel 16:7

POURING OUT LIKE SWEAT by Jeff Carnie

Gatorade
Several years ago, Gatorade had an ad with Michael Jordan where he was covered in orange drops of sweat. The image says clearly that Michael Jordan is so full of Gatorade that it is literally pouring out of him like sweat.

That’s an appropriate image of the Holy Spirit in us. If the Holy Spirit is living inside of you, there’s going to be evidence. Whatever is inside of you is eventually going to come out of you. If you squeeze a grape, you’re going to get grape juice. If you squeeze an apple, you’re going to get apple juice. If you squeeze a prune, you’re going to get prune juice. Whatever is on the inside is eventually going to come out. And if the Spirit is in us, it will come out in our lives.

TRUST HIS HEART by Jeff Carnie

heart

Babbie Mason wrote these words, “God is too wise to be mistaken. God is too good to be unkind. When you don’t understand and can’t see His plan, when you can’t trace His hand, TRUST HIS HEART.”

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;  in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

Bearing Fruit by Jeff Carnie

apples

I once read of a little boy who used to escape his bedroom after being punished. He would crawl out of his bedroom window down an old fruit tree to the ground. One day, his father told him that he was going to chop down the fruit tree, because it hadn’t borne any fruit for a number of years.

That evening, the boy and his friend bought a bushel of apples, and during the night, tied those apples on the barren branches. The next morning, the man could not believe his eyes. He said to his wife, “Honey, I just can’t believe it! That old tree hasn’t yielded any fruit for years, and now it’s covered with apples. And, the most amazing thing is that it’s a pear tree!”

WHEN TO SAVE A DROWNING MAN by Jeff Carnie

drowning

Watchman Nee tells the story of his stay in China with twenty other Christians. The bathing accommodations were inadequate in the home where they were lodging, so they went for a daily dip in the river.

On one occasion, one of the men got a cramp in his leg and began sinking fast. Mr. Nee motioned to one of the other men, who was an excellent swimmer, about the drowning man. To his astonishment, however, the man did not move. He just stood there and watched the drowning man.

Mr. Nee was agitated, but the swimmer was calm and collected. Meanwhile, the voice of the drowning man grew fainter and more desperate. Mr. Nee hated the swimmer who just stood and watched on the shore when he could have jumped into the river and rescued the drowning man. As the drowning man went under for what looked like the last time, the swimmer was there in a moment, and both were soon safely on shore.

After the rescue, Mr. Nee chewed out the swimmer, accusing him of loving his life too much and being selfish. The response of the swimmer revealed, however, he knew what he was doing. He told Watchman that if he had gone too soon, the drowning man would have put a death grip on him and they would have both drowned in the river, and he was right. He told Mr. Nee that a drowning man cannot be saved until he is utterly exhausted and ceases to make the slightest effort to save himself.

Such is the case with our salvation. When we stop trying to save ourselves, then the Lord can step in and save us when we yield to Him. When you see the struggle that is a sign that you’re sensitive to sin and that is where God can help you.
