A Christmas Package by Jeff Carnie

Christmas Presents

Jeff Calendar’s three year old daugh-
ter along with the rest of her family
was observed opening Christmas packages.
As is often the case, Jeff’s wife had
recycled some bows from previous times,
and their daughter grabbed one and them
placed it on top of her head. The old
tape left on it caused it to stick to
her hair. That sight caused everyone to
begin laughing which excited her. In
the midst of their laughter, she cried,
“Look, I’m a present!” [And, in the
end, aren’t we all? On the otherhand,
are we ’a present’ worth keeping and
using in the Kingdom of God?]

MERRY CHRISTMAS and BE BLESSED

Senior Banquet

On November 8, 2012 “The Carnies” were given the privilege of singing for the annual Senior Banquet. When I was approached about providing music for the event, I jumped at the opportunity without hesitation; I felt honored to be asked to be part of the evening. I knew it would be a opportunity for Carole, Debra, and me to sing songs from our “Carnie” repertoire.

When we entered the auditorium, the entire group sensed the evening would be special because the room was so beautifully decorated; we were not disappointed. The evening was really sweet. When planning which songs “The Carnies,” Carole, Debra, and I would be performing, my objective was to select music which would have a broad appeal. From the response received after the program, those who attended the event were pleased with the musical choice. Carole, Deb, and I had so much fun, it allowed us the opportunity to sing songs we seldom do anymore; the time spent that evening was nostalgic! The Carnies have shared a long sweet association with First Baptist Church and its members, approximately twenty years; we were able to walk down memory lane musically. We sang one of our most requested songs, “HUSH.” My only concern for the evening was that “Baby Daniel Whalen may have been contemplating becoming a worship pastor.  Well good for me,  he won’t be ready for a few years.

Changes with the New Year!

There are many changes that will be taking place in the “Celebration Service” area at the beginning of the year. As we prepare to say goodbye to one of our team members, we will be embracing additional members. Although it’s not always easy or pleasant to see people we have come to care about move on, I’ve come to understand it’s necessary. I realize God is in control, and with that been said I must be accepting and willing to adjust to all changes.

Join with me and our team in saying goodbye to George Rivera as he leaves to serve in the worship department at his home church. George has played on team Spectrum as a bassist for about two years. You’ll be missed man, blessings!

As I move our team forward to 2013, I am presently considering two individuals as bassists for the Spectrum team,  Larvin Prendhal and Russel Johnson. Please pray that God gives me clarity in who is best for the team both in skill, chemistry, and commitment. Welcome with me our new drummer, Brandon Harris; take the time to welcome him to our team and church. If you had the opportunity to hear him play with our team in November, you will agree with me that he is awesome.

I am really excited about the growth of our community choir, we have three additional members since our last newsletter. Please welcome Mikaela DeRose, soprano, and Crystal Finn and Myashra Hudson, both altos.

Thanksgiving 2012

Because of the generosity of so many of you, Loving Hands Ministry was able to be a blessing to so many families. Between the “Concert for Cans” effort and the can and dry good donations from many of you the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving, we were able to share your generosity with others. Again, we collaborated with Anna Kirchgater School to provide for families which were identified by them as in need of assistance. We served 33 families.

The HELPS fund and Loving Hands Ministry will together identify families in our community and church who are in need of assistance during the Christmas holiday. The privilege of serving individuals needing help is beyond fulfilling. It helps to keep things in perspective, it is a reminder of our purpose, “to be the hands and feet of Jesus.”

Atascadero

In September, “Spectrum” led the services for the First Assembly of God in Atascadero, CA. Because we have had the privilege of leading services for the First Assembly in Atascadero for the past three years, it was a reunion of sorts.  We were all thrilled to re-acquaint ourselves with individuals we had previously met, but it was just exciting meeting and praying with new acquaintances.

Carole shared a touching testimony which connected with many in the service. Her heartfelt message was, it’s not always easy to do what’s right, but as Christians we are required to make choices which clearly represent the God we stand for. The time we spent with our brothers and sisters in Atascadero was pleasant. We always look forward to our time with this church family, and can’t wait until next year.

Spectrum Community Choir

I couldn’t resist giving a shout out to our very own “Spectrum Community Choir,” who participated in all three services on December 2nd. They performed a song, “You Are Mercy” which was an original song written by a personal friend of mine. “You Are Mercy” is scheduled to be recorded on our next project. I could not have been prouder of our choir’s recent performance of the song “You Are Mercy,” and if the response from the FBCEG congregation after hearing “You Are Mercy” is any indication; they were just as pleased as I was of the performance. With that I say thank you to all my choir members.

Be blessed
